24 hours of happy by Pharrell Williams the Unkempt version

 

 A compilation of verses recorded mostly at random in the wee hours. I sometimes wake up peruse maybe Soundcloud and a beat strikes me. I free write and record with no regard for whether or not the listener will like what I'm saying or how I deliver it. It's my journal. Journals aren't written to impress others. Subconscious and conscious meet. My thoughts of the week emerge and traces of conversations I've recently had  join the now growing collage of ideas, dreams and what have you. I offer this piece as an introduction or perhaps a reintroduction to me and the sonics that flow through me as I figure out the future of my auditory output.

It's unkempt because this is raw stuff. Of course it's audible and will not destroy your speakers or rattle your ears buds in an unsettling way. There are no high fidelity mixes in giant studio. It's unkempt with much character and the content is just the same. I even cuss on a track or two.

I'll be using the funds from this release for future official releases as well as putting $'s towards #theconsciousness my movement to continue to support artists through the channels of FreeHiphopNow, OkaySoSTFU, BondfireRadio Conscious Bootleggers as well as PayUsNoMind. "I Am Not A Threat" #iamnotathreat

It is my challenge to navigate this perceived reality as a ‘black’ man daily, for it is assumed I am a threat to ‘all’ of the people who I encounter. For me it isn’t simply a maze of avoiding confrontation with law enforcement and would be Zimmermans. That’s what all the conversations are typically about. A gloomy, hate and fearful cloud of rape culture ideology hangs above my head as well. But I am not a predator. I realize that on every space on this planet though that I would not be prejudged and perceived as a threat. Thing is, I live in America. I live in New York the city that never sleeps. I overstand it. I am not upset. But I am not the average ‘black’ man who as well is not a threat. I sympathize with him. There’s a pain that lives inside of many ‘black’ men. I’m fortunate to not suffer from this pain but recognize that it does exist. The matter at hand is that far too many people who are not ‘black’ men fail to acknowledge that possibility that what I described even exists.

I appreciate all the ladies that I encounter each day who speak to ‘me’ first (and I’m talkin when I’m fully bearded out, not shaped up and ready for a wedding.) Treat me nicely, proving that not all women walk around afraid of men. ‘Black’ men. I am grateful for that. It aides my challenge. Makes me smile.

I don’t have a grand speech or pitch to try and get people to contribute to what I now call #theconsciousness. I’m well aware of my affect on others by the art I create and content I share every single day. I’ve been doing it for well over a decade. Some people buy stuff some don’t. Some SHARE it in a major way via write-ups, interviews and invitations to speak on radio shows. I appreciate it all. We’re in an era of free and people are use to getting everything without paying for it. I get it. I’m not complaining. With that all said it is important to say creating and distributing creative works that people have grown to expect to be free cost something. In most cases if you spent money to give everything away all the time you be considered a fool.

Besides sharing my art I share the art of others. I create portals for exposure. I empower artists and entrepreneurs and create avenues for income for them too. It’s not free to do these things.
